InXile Brings Back Two Cut Stretch Goals For Torment: Tides of Numenera

As we should all be aware by now, crowd-funded projects are always in flux, especially when it comes to the nature of stretch goals and how they translate into the finished project. Torment: Tides of Numenera picked up some controversy in this vein when developer inXile Entertainment announced before release that a few of its stretch goals would be cut from the finished project.

The nature of these cut stretch goals range from disappointing to unfortunate to beneficial (in some cases), but this upset groups of people, specifically backers, who helped get Torment: Tides of Numenera to that level. But, these things happen, and unfortunate cuts or not, Tides released in a beautiful form (and to a glowing review from myself).

But, inXile announced today that they're not done with the game just yet. In addition to continued bug fixes and other performance improvements, Torment: Tides of Numenera will see the return of two of its stretch goals that originally didn't make it into the final product – The Toy companion (now known as "Oom") and the Voluminous Codex.

The Toy Companion was one of two non-human companions cut from the game. It was described as "a changing ball of goo: Is it a pet, an abandoned toy, a dangerous weapon? Whatever it is, it responds to the way you treat it by changing its appearance and abilities to reflect what it perceives as your desires. Its ultimate secrets are… well, you’ll have to find out."

The Voluminous Codex is essentially an expanded journal that would keep greater details on previous encounters, quests and developments that you can use as a reference going forward. So if you forgot a detail – a character name, or how a certain event unfolded – that information won't be lost to you.

inXile did not offer an exact timeline on when these updates would hit the game, but they did emphasize that bug fixes and optimizations would be their highest priority and would make up their initial updates.
