Netflix has demonstrated a willingness to test pilot a variety of shows, even in cases where there's plenty of risk involved. Such is the case with its upcoming Castlevania Original Series that has everyone talking.
Coming in 2017, the Castlevania show hasn't been detailed at any capacity by Netflix at this time. Will it be animated or use live actors? The announcement was made subtly with its inclusion in a future programming list that acted as if it wasn't a big deal.
The show is likely being produced by Adi Shankar, who shared with Slashfilm that he was working on a project for "one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years". Castlevania would certainly qualify.
Castlevania is a dark fantasy IP that features vampires, vampire hunters, and a family by the name of Belmont that keeps busy with trying to track down and kill Count Dracula. Its universe is unlike anything else in gaming, and could prove to be a huge addition to Netflix' growing library of Original Series.
