Heavy Rain Will Not Get A Sequel

In an interview with Develop, Quantic Dream David Cage reveals that he doesn't believe in the idea of sequels but instead using his name as the brand:

David Cage the brand… is about not having to make sequels. It’s about creating a brand that is the name of the creator, not Heavy Rain 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 12.

Let me be stupid for one second; I’m not in this business to make money. I wrote Heavy Rain because I was excited about it, because there was something to say.

Yeah I could make Heavy Rain 2, but I’ve said what I’ve had to say about it. That’s the strength of Quantic Dream, to have the capacity to create new ideas, to make something that breaks ground.

Yeah we signed another deal with Sony. Hopefully we’re building something exciting, something different. Hopefully it will build on the foundations of Heavy Rain, but go forward in a very, very, different way.

I agree with him. Heavy Rain doesn't need a sequel, if just to prevent everyone from having to hear "Jason!" and Shaun!" again. And I like the fact that he puts his name on the line while pushing forward creatively as a designer. I'm sure that Kojima would have liked to create a video game that isn't Metal Gear Solid. At the same time, M. Night Shyamalan… well… Good luck, Mr. Cage. You're gonna need it.
