Outlast 2 Demo Goes Where No Horror Game Has Gone Before

Outlast 2 is probably the most anticipated horror sequel south of Resident Evil 7, but, if the demo that just dropped across the globe on all major platforms tells us anything, Red Barrels hasn't forgotten its roots.

The Canadian developers became infamous with Outlast: Whistleblower, the lone DLC offering for Outlast, which boasted being the first video game ever to feature male genital mutilation. The words "dubious honor" come to mind, but, hey, who am I to judge. At least that would be an interesting-looking Boy Scout patch.

For those of you who don't remember, and would rather forget, let me remind you anyway: the most memorable antagonist from Whistleblower is Eddie Gluskin, or "The Groom," and he has such an Oedipus complex that no woman could possibly live up to the image of his mother – unless he makes a new woman … out of you … by cutting your junk off.

Eesh.

But fret not. For Red Barrels is at it again in Outlast 2, or at least they are in the demo. See for yourself:

They definitely know their audience (men), and they know how to scare them. At some point, I'm sure, this feature will lose its effect. But not today.
