Palmer Luckey and PewDiePie Make Time’s 100 Most Influential People

YouTube star PewDiePie, aka Felix Kjellberg (yes, in that order), as well as Oculus Rift-founder Palmer Luckey have landed as this year's gaming representatives on the Time's inaugural 100 Most Influential People.

In PewDiePie's entry on the list, South Park co-creator Trey Parker writes that he made him "feel old" when watching PewDiePie for the first time. But it became clear why he was been able to amass a following of over 43 million subscribers:

But the more we saw, the more I understood why Felix Kjellberg, with some 43 million subscribers, is the most-watched person on YouTube. He’s charming and funny, and he knows how to edit himself. And he has turned passive gaming into active, enjoyable entertainment.

Meanwhile, director Ridley Scott praised Palmer Luckey as a technological pioneer in his Time 100 entry:

The technology Palmer has shepherded has made it possible to experience storytelling in ways we previously could only imagine. It allowed us to invite everyone to go to Mars and to truly experience what astronaut Mark Watney did…

Because of Palmer’s entrepreneurial and innovative nature, the needle for VR has moved from impractical to endlessly possible.

Other Time 100 entries include Aziz Ansari, Dwayne Johnson, Stephen Curry, Ronda Rousey, Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, Aung San Suu Kyi, Adele, and Idris Elba.

Are there any other notable figures in gaming that you think should have made the list?
