Blade & Soul Already Has Over One Million Active Players in North America and Europe

Blade & Soul has quickly achieved widespread popularity among gaming forums and social media, surging with high visibility on sites like Twitch and MMORPG.com. But how popular is it, really?

NCSOFT has announced that Blade & Soul has reached over one million players in North America and Europe within a week of launch in the two territories. NCSOFT West CEO Dr. Songyee Yoon had the following to say about the news:

At NCSOFT, we are committed to providing our players an extraordinary experience across all of our games. It is thrilling that so many people are excited about the arrival of Blade & Soul in the West, and we will continue to work tirelessly to make sure our amazing players have a great time in this epic game.

Blade & Soul has stood out from the competition with its martial arts combat system which features combos, cancels, interrupts, and more fighting game inspired elements.

The true test of Blade & Soul will be how it fares in the following months as it leaves its window of spotlight and players begin spending more time at endgame. MMOs in the West typically lose a large number of their playerbase after the one month mark. There is hope for Blade & Soul remaining a top played game as it's performed extremely well over the years in Asia, though.

One advantage Blade & Soul has going for it is that it has been already released in the East for several years, allowing NCSOFT to build up a large repertoire of content for players to consume. Some of this content is currently missing from the North American and Europe clients, but will soon be introduced in the way of an aggressive post-launch update schedule. This, combined with its alluring gameplay, could make it a long-standing staple of the Western MMO community.
