The GameBoy Pokemon Games for Virtual Console Removes Restore Points

The Virtual Console re-releases for original Pokémon GameBoy titles—Pokémon Blue, Red, Green, and Yellow—will not come with restore points, a feature that nearly all Virtual Console games on Nintedo 3DS and Wii U have. This new information was uncovered by Serebii.net, who poured through the manuals of the re-releases and suggests that this change was made so that player wouldn't be able to clone Pokémon.

While this will be the first time that a GameBoy title on Virtual Console will lack restore points, it's not a huge loss. You can pretty much save anywhere in these games outside of battle, so the main use of restore points here would be wanting to catch a rare Pokémon without having to retry over and over again.

That said, these Pokémon re-releases will cost about twice as much as the original games. Luckily, online battles will take place wirelessly via the Cable Club.
