Xbox 360, PS3 Versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops III Won’t Have Campaign

The industry is still making the full transition to new consoles, as games like Call of Duty: Black Ops III continue to get last-gen ports. Unfortunately for owners of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, ports don't always include everything.

A new post on the Call of Duty website reveals that the 360 and PS3 versions of Black Ops III won't feature a campaign mode.

"The Black Ops 3 PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will feature Multiplayer and Zombies gameplay only, not Campaign," the post states. "The ambitious scope of the 1-4 player coop Campaign design of the PS4, Xbox One and PC versions could not be faithfully recreated on old generation hardware."

Other features missing from the last-gen versions of the game include the weapon paint shop and the "eSports tools." Activision will only charge $49.99 for the 360/PS3 port, though I'm not sure a $10 discount quite makes up for the complete lack of a single-player mode.

I understand that the technology of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One allows developers to craft more sophisticated and content-heavy experiences, but some cutbacks on last-gen ports go too far. The absence of any kind of single-player campaign in Black Ops III falls into that category.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III comes out for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC on November 6.
