Stone Cold Steve Austin Busts Onto WWE 2K16 Cover, Fans Split Over Decision

The legendary Stone Cold Steve Austin, in shades of WWF Warzone (I just made myself feel a little old), has spinebusted his way onto the cover of WWE 2K16 with his signature entrance at the turnbuckle as the cover pose. I suppose if you're gonna have him on the cover, you might as well tie in the whole Austin 3:16 pun the video has going.

Steve Austin had some choice words about the selection:

I’ve had the privilege of working with 2K to support the WWE 2K franchise, and now I’m absolutely honored to serve as the WWE 2K16 cover Superstar. No disrespect to the previous and extremely deserving WWE 2K cover Superstars – Dwayne ‘The Rock®’ Johnson and John Cena® – but it’s about time the franchise raised some hell with yours truly on the cover. I look forward to injecting a dose of ‘Texas Rattlesnake’ into this year’s game and overall campaign.

Fan response has been fairly mixed. Not that they have disrespect for Hall of Famer Stone Cold, but many feel that one of the WWE's modern stars should have graced the cover and that this is just indicative of the WWE's lack of faith in the current roster. On that point, I can imagine Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, or Randy Orton as suitable cover stars, though I'm sure there would be other fans disappointed with those choices too.

Well in time for a holiday release, WWE 2K16 is slated for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, and PS4 for October 27 in North America and October 30 internationally. There's no word on a PC version, but if it's like past WWE titles, there will be a PC port in the following months.
