Many, many years ago during the Super Nintendo era, the house of Mario was planning to partner with Sony to create a disc-based expansion to the SNES. However, Nintendo ended up backing out of the deal, prompting Sony to release its own console, the PlayStation.
Interestingly enough, it looks like images of a purported prototype of the console have surfaced online, courtesy of Reddit. Check it:
