What Is Sony’s “The Player”?

Sony Pictures Television Inc. has trademarked “The Player” for the purposes of “downloadable electronic game software,” “computer game software,” and “entertainment services in the nature of a dramatic television series.”

To me, that sounds like a reality TV show that involves real-life players who must go through rounds of gaming for ultimate bragging rights. You know, something like PAX’s Omegathon.

Given that the trademark application was filed on May 18, Sony may be doing this right in time for an announcement at E3 during its press conference on June 15 at 6pm. But this is seemingly so late in the game that I wouldn’t be surprised if details for “The Player” wasn’t revealed until the holidays.

What do you think “The Player” could be?
