Black Ops III Will Have Option to Campaign as Female Soldier

Treyarch plans many new changes to refresh and push the formula of the Call of Duty series forward, not the least of which is gender inclusiveness.

According to Gamespot, in the upcoming entry to the iconic first-person shooter franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops III players for the first time will be able to play through the campaign as a male or as a female soldier. With the campaign supporting co-op for up to four players, this allows for a badass female squad in addition to a badass male squad or a badass co-ed squad.

The takeaway here: the concept is badass. Campaign director Jason Blundell of Treyarch Studios certainly thinks so, referencing Mass Effect 3's FemShep along with Ridley Scott from the Alien trilogy, initially a role designed for a man before Sigourney Weaver landed it. He said that game's script required no changing regardless of the gender selected, and neither will Black Ops III's “gender-neutral” script

Playable women first landed in Call of Duty combat in 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts, but only in multiplayer mode.
