Winner of Peter Molyneux’s Curiosity Still Denied Prize After 18 Months

Bryan Henderson, the 18-year-old Scot who was declared the winner of Peter Molyneux's Curiosity cube game on May 26, 2013, still hasn't received his prize after 18 months, reports Eurogamer.

Molyneux had claimed that the winner would become a digital god in Godus and receive a cut of the money made by the gamea prize he called "life-changing." But given the unfortunate state of the project, it would seem that Bryan Henderson has been left in the dust. (I suppose waiting around a year and a half would be "life-changing" too…)

For winning Curiosity: What's Inside the Cube?, Henderson was sent the vague video above and he decided to share it, which led to interviews with Game Informer, Wired, and BBC Radio. Eventually he was sent a text from Peter Molyneux congratulating him and another text stating that "if Godus is successful, you are going to have an amazing year." Then after visiting the studio, he was "promised a royalty of one per cent of revenue from Godus for the period of this role as God of Gods."

Unfortunately, since multiplayer through the Hubworld mode hasn't been implemented in Godus since then and likely won't be a feature for quite some time, if ever, this reward has essentially become null and void. He attempted to communicate with 22Cans once every month since his studio trip, but he might as well have listened to crickets. "Communication is non-existent," he admitted, "so I'm not even going to try any more."

After six months to a year, they should be more professional. It's not even about being professional. They're not even interested in their own project. What the f***'s that about? So I was like f*** it, I'm not going to try if you're not going to try.

…It doesn't make me concerned about being God of Gods or anything. He does deliver on something happening, but just not as good as he says. He does that thing a lot.

In response, Molyneux told Eurogamer that multiplayer is actually still in the works:

I totally and absolutely and categorically apologise. That isn't good enough and I'll take it on my own shoulders that I should have made sure he was communicated with. We will from today onwards do that.

…Our finance director has been accruing the revenues ready for when it starts happening, and then we'll switch on and then he'll get the revenues, and then the God of Gods role should happen the way we want it to happen.
