Jason Returns as New Friday the 13th Game Announced

It's a pretty good start to 2015 if you're fictional serial killer Jason Voorhees. Not only are you still terrorizing innocent people in your 35th year since the original movie in 1980, but you've also had announcements for a new television show as well as a thirteenth film. (The trade off, of course, is that you're a monstrous serial killer.) Today, news got better for the guy in the hockey mask, as plans for a new Friday the 13th game have been revealed.

The new version of Friday the 13th, the first appearance Jason has made on consoles since the notoriously-bad NES game in 1989, will have sort of an Evolve-like play scheme, featuring both co-op and competitive asymmetric multiplayer, in which a small group of plucky survivors go up against the monster with the machete himself.

“With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form,” said Sean S. Cunningham, creator of the original slasher flick in an exclusive interview with EGM. “We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.”

A major developer has been attached to the project, according to Cunningham, and will be announced in the next few weeks. Developers are targeting an October 2015 release, but don't be surprised if there's a delay – November actually has a Friday the 13th. It's marketing waiting to happen.
