How to Use the Knife in Black Ops 6: Why Can’t I Equip My Knife?

In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, you’ll want to learn how to use your knife as it has some unique benefits over using your firearms. However, the game doesn’t clue you in on how to equip the knife or what the advantages are to using it. Fortunately, we’ve got the tips you need to use your blade effectively below.

How to equip and use the knife in Black Ops 6

To use the knife in Black Ops 6, press and hold melee. Doing this will equip your knife and allow you to use it like a standard weapon. Pressing the fire button will slash with your blade, and you can use the switch weapons button to equip your guns again.

The default melee button for each platform is:

  • PC: V
  • PS5: R3
  • Xbox: RS

In previous Call of Duty games, the knife was used as the regular melee or took up the secondary weapon slot. Now, melee weapons have their own slot, though only the knife and baseball bat are available in Black Ops 6 at launch.

There are two significant advantages to equipping your knife in Black Ops 6:

  • The knife melee is an instant kill.
  • You run faster.

So, if you manage to corner your foes in a tight spot, switching to the knife and charging them might be more effective than using firearms. Additionally, knife kills are silent, which is great if you’re going for a stealth build.

Best Black Ops 6 Knife Build

The best Black Ops 6 knife builds will center around the added mobility it gives you and its instant kill ability. Because of its extremely short range, you’ll want to focus on perks that make you stealthier and help detect and evade enemies.

We want to activate the Recon Combat Specialty, so you’ll want to pick three blue perks. We recommend:

  • Slot 1: Ninja
  • Slot 2: Forward Intel
  • Slot 3: Cold-Blooded

The combo of the three and the Recon Combat Specialty will make you silent, prevent enemy scorestreaks from targeting you, and allow you to detect foes easier.
