Stardew Valley: How to Get Truffle Oil and What It’s Used For

Truffle Oil is a great money maker in Stardew Valley, but it’s one of the more advanced items you can craft. Truffles themselves are a rare item, and the recipe for the Oil Maker needed to produce Truffle Oil takes a while to unlock. So, it may not be clear that crafting the item is even an option.

How to Craft Truffle Oil in Stardew Valley

Before you can craft Truffle Oil in Stardew Valley, you’ll need to get Truffles. You can do this by either purchasing pigs once you have a Deluxe Barn or by defeating Truffle Crabs. Unfortunately, we haven’t found a way to spawn Truffle Crabs consistently, so the only way to get the item daily is by using pigs.

Once you have a Truffle, you’ll need an Oil Maker to produce Truffle Oil. You’ll need to raise your Farming skill to level 8 to get the recipe for this. Once you do, you can craft an Oil Maker with the following recipe:

  • Hardwood x20
  • Gold Bar x1
  • Slime x50

Once your Oil Maker is ready, you can place a Truffle in it, and in six in-game hours, you’ll have a bottle of Truffle Oil.

What do you use Truffle Oil for?

Despite being described as a cooking ingredient in Stardew Valley, Truffle Oil is only used in one crafting recipe. You’ll need one bottle to make Rain Totems. Otherwise, you’re best off selling it for 1,085 Gold (1,491 Gold if you take on the Artisan profession at Farming Level 10).

However, you should note that if you harvest an Iridium level Truffle, you can sell it for 1,250 Gold. This means that if you don’t have the Artisan profession, you’ll get more cash from selling these than from using them to produce Truffle Oil.

It’s tough to get a consistent enough Truffle harvest to make it your main moneymaker. However, it makes for a great semi-passive supplement whether you sell the Truffles raw or use them to produce Truffle Oil.
