Spider-Man 2 already has one playable symbiote in the sense that Peter Parker gets symbiote powers. However, asking if Venom is playable (as well as Carnage) is a valid question since Insomniac Games has consistently added new playable characters in its recent games. So is Venom or Carnage playable in Spider-Man 2?
Is Venom playable in Spider-Man 2?
Venom is a playable character in Spider-Man 2. During the late-game mission entitled “Don’t Be Scared,” players take control of the big hulking symbiote and wreak havoc on Oscorp Tower. He has his own set of attacks, traversal abilities, and special abilities, albeit in a much more limited way when compared to Peter Parker or Miles Morales.
However, this is the only time players get to play as Venom in Spider-Man 2. After completing this mission, users can no longer play as Venom (although Insomniac has confirmed that it is working on a feature that would let players replay missions). This means there are no extra Venom missions or means to play him in the open world.
Is Carnage playable in Spider-Man 2?
And while Venom is playable in a limited instance, Carnage is not playable in the game. He is technically not in the game, but very heavily teased in the mission chain titled “The Flame.” These missions have players tracking down the cult led by someone referred to as The Flame. The Flame ends up getting his hands on the symbiote during the final “The Flame” quest. It turns red while in his possession and has him exclaiming that “carnage” is coming.
It seems all but inevitable that Carnage will make a more official appearance in a future game, be it a spin-off or full sequel. It seems likely that he will just be an antagonist and might not be playable, but it is unclear at this stage.
