A Baldur’s Gate 3 can’t save bug is causing players a lot of trouble. A message about how BG3 is currently syncing is preventing players from saving or loading their game properly. Multiple users on social media, including Twitter and Reddit, report having this issue. Fortunately, there are several solutions you can try to fix this severe glitch. Here’s how to fix the can’t save or load bug for Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to fix Baldur’s Gate 3 can’t save bug
Go through the following steps to fix the can’t save or load bug:
- Quit out of the game if it’s still running
- Right-click on Baldur’s Gate 3 in the Steam Library and hit Properties
- Head to General > Steam Cloud and tick this option off
- Go to the Steam folder for Baldur’s Gate 3 on your system and delete it. This is usually “C:\Users\myUser\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur’s Gate 3”.
- Restart Baldur’s Gate 3
You may also need to disable cross-saves in the BG3 settings menu. Optionally, you can also verify the game files, but users say that this hasn’t fixed much of anything since the problem seems to stem from how cloud saves work with the game on Steam. You can also try playing the game on DirectX or Vulcan; that is, whichever option you didn’t use before to start the game.
Unfortunately, using the solution above will delete all of your current progress with the game, including the character you made. There’s sadly no way around this, but being able to save and load is far more important.
Hopefully, Larian Studios will quickly fix this bug with a hotfix or patch very soon, but until then, at least there’s a solution to the issue.
