Baldur’s Gate 3 Inspiration: How to Get Inspirational Events Through Background

The Baldur’s Gate 3 Inspiration system is an important mechanic that isn’t explained very well at the start of the game. Earning Inspiration will allow your party members to reroll an ability check once for free, which can save you if you happen to roll below the Difficulty Class or a natural 1 critical failure. In particular, there are some interactions in the game that will require multiple checks in a row, so having Inspiration in your back pocket is a good idea. That said, gaining Inspiration requires that you perform an action that counts as a so-called Inspirational Event. Here’s how to gain inspiration through an inspirational event in BG3.

How to get Baldur’s Gate 3 inspiration and inspirational events

To get inspiration, you need your character to perform a narrative action that coincides with their background.

For example, to keep things spoiler-free, a character with the Folk Hero background will gain inspiration for saving innocent people without a moment’s hesitation. So if there’s a decision in the game where you can leap in and save the day, that’s what you should do.
