Baldurs Gate 3 Monk Release Date and Subclasses

Baldur’s Gate 3 Monk Class Release Date and Subclasses

The Monk class has been missing from Baldur’s Gate 3, and fans are wondering when its release date will be. The developers finally detailed the Monk and its subclasses and revealed when it’ll be coming to BG3. Fortunately, you don’t have long to wait to take the role of this martial artist.

When is the Monk coming to Baldur’s Gate 3?

The release date for the Monk in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the same as for the full version of the game:

  • PC/Mac: August 3
  • PS5: September 6

Unfortunately, the class won’t be available in early access, so you’ll have to wait a bit longer to try it out.

What are the Monk subclasses in Baldur’s Gate 3?

There are four Monk subclasses (or disciplines) in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  • Way of the Four Elements
  • Way of the Long Death
  • Way of the Shadow
  • Way of the Sun Soul

Way of the Four Elements

Monks of this tradition channel elemental forces. They can use ki points to cast spells or invoke elemental effects, like breathing fire or creating a whip of water. As they progress, they learn more disciplines and can increase the power of their elemental abilities.

Way of the Long Death

This tradition studies death to extract vitality and frighten opponents. It grants abilities that provide temporary hit points when enemies are defeated (Touch of Death), frighten nearby enemies (Hour of Reaping), cheat death by spending ki points (Mastery of Death), and channel necrotic damage through touch (Touch of the Long Death).

Way of the Shadow

This subclass focuses on stealth and deception. It allows you to use your ki to cast stealth-related spells (Shadow Arts), teleport between shadows (Shadow Step), become invisible in dim light or darkness (Cloak of Shadow), and exploit distractions to make additional attacks (Opportunist).

Way of the Sun Soul

Sun Soul monks channel radiant energy to attack from a distance. They can throw radiant energy bolts (Radiant Sun Bolt), create waves of energy (Searing Arc Strike), generate radiant explosions (Searing Sunburst), and form a protective, damage-inflicting aura (Sun Shield).
