GTA 5 Switch Release Date Rumors

GTA 5 Switch Release Date Rumors: Will Grand Theft Auto V Come to Switch?

Players have hoped that GTA 5 would get a Switch release date for years now. It’s been a decade since Grand Theft Auto V launched, and Rockstar has released it across three console generations, but will it ever grace Nintendo’s console?

We’ll take a look at the chances for a GTA 5 release date below.

Will GTA 5 get a Switch release date?

There’s no indication that GTA 5 will get a Switch release date.

After combing through numerous sources, we couldn’t find any legitimate indicator that Grand Theft Auto V will come to Switch. If plans to bring the game to the Switch exist, Rockstar has managed to keep them from leaking.

In fact, in our research, we couldn’t find any evidence that a GTA 5 Switch release has ever been in the works. In contrast, news of the 2014 PS4 and Xbox One ports, the 2015 PC port, and the 2022 PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports all leaked in advance.

With Rockstar maintaining a stoic silence on this topic, fans can only speculate. Given the history of leaked ports, the absence of any such whispers for a Switch release makes the possibility seem rather unlikely at this time.

Why Isn’t GTA 5 on Switch?

There’s no official reason that GTA 5 isn’t on the Switch. The hardware is more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox 360, so it should be able to run the game. However, Grand Theft Auto Online is Rockstar’s big money maker, and the portable nature of the Switch doesn’t lend itself well to online play, so that may be a factor.

Rockstar may also be considering the demographic and market compatibility, as GTA’s mature content may not align perfectly with Switch’s family-friendly image. Licensing, developmental challenges, and the cost-to-benefit ratio of porting GTA 5 to Switch could be other contributing factors.
