The Gunfight playlist has mysteriously gone missing from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II‘s online matchmaking. This popular match type has been a very successful multiplayer mode that pits two teams of two against each other in a round-based match. This 2v2 PvP concept returned in Season 3 for Modern Warfare II, but players noticed that Gunfight was removed at the start of the day on May 3. Here is what happened to Gunfight and if it’s coming back.
What happened to Gunfight MW2?
Yes, Gunfight is indeed missing in Modern Warfare II and fans are pissed off. Fortunately, Activision and Infinity Ward have responded on Twitter and Gunfight will be returning later on today at an unspecified time.
Infinity Ward revealed earlier on May 3 that the playlist for Modern Warfare II would include Shipment 24/7, Shoot House 24/7, Cranked, 10v10 Mosh Pit, 3rd Person Mosh Pit, Party Modes, and Gunfight. So, it’s clear that the developers intended to put Gunfight into the rotation. While some fans on Reddit were disappointed by its removal and almost expected the developers to remove something that players wanted, this looks like an unintentional mistake.
More evidence that this was just a glitch or perhaps a typo in the programming is that a recent blog indicates that the new Faceoff mode will involve Gunfight. Infinity Ward positioned this new multiplayer mode for Season 03 Reloaded, a throwback to the same mode in Modern Warfare 3, as “the ultimate compliment to Gunfight.”
In fact, Faceoff will include all current Gunfight maps, with the developers stating that new Gunfight maps will be “released in later seasons.” So it’s clear that Call of Duty has not thrown Gunfight to the wayside and actually has plans to improve the mode in the game’s roadmap.
