Twitter Doge Logo Explained: Why Is There a Dog on Twitter?

The Twitter Doge logo is causing many users to scratch their heads in confusion, as they’re left wondering why a dog is now on their Twitter homepage. The abrupt change was made to the social media platform amid a number of odd decisions from its owner Elon Musk, with it still replacing the typical bird logo at the time of this writing. So, what on earth is going on?

Why is there a dog logo on Twitter?

The dog logo replacing Twitter’s bird icon seems to have been in response to a lawsuit Elon Musk is facing for allegedly inflating the price of Dogecoin. The billionaire is currently at the center of a $258 billion lawsuit, which accuses Musk of using his social media platform to increase Dogecoin’s price artificially.

The lawsuit was filed in June 2022 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and Musk’s legal team filed a motion on March 31 to have the lawsuit dismissed (via Reuters).

His team made the following comments about the lawsuit:

“There is nothing unlawful about tweeting words of support for, or funny pictures about, a legitimate cryptocurrency that continues to hold a market cap of nearly $10 billion. This court should put a stop to plaintiffs’ fantasy and dismiss the complaint.”

Only a few days later, Twitter’s bird logo was replaced with the Dogecoin logo, a familiar image of a curious-looking Shiba Inu that started out as a meme. While Musk hasn’t directly discussed the logo being replaced, he tweeted the following, which was promptly reshared by the official Dogecoin Twitter account:

This isn’t the first controversial move on Twitter from Elon Musk. Back in February, changes made to the platform resulted in it being brought offline, while DMs also disappeared on the social network.
