Twitter DMs Missing: Why Have Messages Disappeared From My Inbox?

Some Twitter users are finding that their DMs are missing. When looking at their inbox, a message saying, “Something went wrong. Try reloading,” appears. Unfortunately, that doesn’t help explain why their Twitter DMs have disappeared.

Why have my Twitter DMs disappeared from my inbox?

Twitter DMs disappearing is likely temporary. The service is having multiple issues today that seems to indicate a major update is inbound. So, expect there to be stability problems until it officially rolls out.

Fortunately, your DMs probably aren’t gone forever. This issue has occurred in the past and is usually fixed within the day. So, while it might be inconvenient, the best fix for this issue is to wait.

Of course, some users are taking this issue as evidence that big changes are coming for free users on Twitter. One theory is that Twitter will start charging for DMs or limiting inbox size for those with Twitter Blue.

Unfortunately, Twitter hasn’t commented on the issues, so we don’t know what issues are causing DMs to disappear from people’s inboxes. Hopefully, the company will comment on the problem soon. However, we don’t have too much hope for that, as the service has randomly broken, changed things, and issued and retracted guidelines since Elon Musk took over.
