After a lot of teases from Marvel, She-Hulk episode 8 finally brought Matt Murdock a.k.a. Daredevil into the Disney Plus show, not to mention the MCU as a whole. Perhaps more surprising for fans is that the show delves into a She-Hulk and Daredevil romance, despite the characters being in different cities and having different powers. Is this Daredevil and She-Hulk hook-up from the comics or is Murdock as a love interest a new thing for the MCU?
Is the She-Hulk and Daredevil romance comics accurate?
The She-Hulk and Daredevil romance introduced in episode 8 has no basis in the comics, it seems, as Matt Murdock and Jennifer Walters have never had a romantic relationship in either of their respective comics. Unsurprisingly, they have had multiple interactions in the comics, both being Marvel superhero lawyers, but not as many as you might think and certainly not romantically.
In the comics, Daredevil and She-Hulk typically meet in big Marvel events, such as Infinity War. The pair only really started having interactions in the last ten years, such as in Charles Soule’s run on She-Hulk and Daredevil comics in the 2010s. At one point, they square off against each other in court, with Captain America/Steve Rogers as the defendant. However, other than a few friendly drinks and some superhero shenanigans, their relationship is based on professional respect rather than romance.
In general, fans seem to have reacted quite positively to the romance, despite it not being comics-accurate.
There is no indication that the romantic relationship between Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will continue beyond this episode. Murdock states that he’s returning to New York the next day, and Jennifer Walters has her own problems to contend with going into She-Hulk episode 9. It’s possible Tatiana Maslany may show up in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again Disney Plus series in the same way that Charlie Cox appeared in hers, but fans will have to wait and see.
