Grounded

Grounded Multiplayer: Does It Have Co-op, Splitscreen, or Cross-play?

The full Grounded version 1.0 launched on September 27 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC and this would be a perfect opportunity for new players to band together to explore the game with friends. Does Grounded have multiplayer co-op modes in local splitscreen or online, and if it has the latter, is the game cross-play?

Does Grounded have co-op multiplayer?

Grounded Multiplayer Co-op

Grounded does have co-op multiplayer for up to four players throughout the game’s campaign, each of whom will take on the role of one of four teenagers — Max, Willow, Pete, or Hoops — who find themselves lost in a garden after being shrunk down to a minuscule size. There is no local splitscreen option for multiplayer, so each player will need their own console or PC, as well as their own copy of the game.

Up to four players can team up online on their own private server and cross-play is supported between Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Those playing the game on Steam will need to have the Xbox app to be able to join in with their friends, though, and there is no online matchmaking between strangers.

How to set up an online game in Grounded

To set up an online game in Grounded, one player needs to select “Multiplayer” in the main menu and then choose to “Host Online Game”. This then gives the player the choice of continuing with an existing world or starting a new game. Up to three friends can then join the game by selecting “Join Online Game” and choosing that player from their friends list.

Thanks to the introduction of Shared Worlds back in August, all progress made in a game world can be stored in the cloud. This Shared World can then be shared with any friends, who can then host the world themselves if the original host is not online. Players can create and own up to three Shared Worlds but can take part in up to 50 worlds with them by others.
