Overwatch 2 Beta Xbox Not Working

Overwatch 2 Beta Xbox Not Working, Shutting Down Error and Fix

Many Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One users are experiencing various Overwatch 2 beta Xbox not working errors. Attempting to launch a game leads to their console shutting down, apparently to keep the system’s internal temperature low. Multiple users on the official Overwatch 2 technical support forums have expressed frustration over this nasty bug, especially from those who paid for early access after spending $40 for the Watchpoint Pack.

How to fix the Overwatch 2 beta Xbox not working error

Overwatch 2 Beta Xbox Not Working

According to a user named Happy in the bug report section of the official forums, there is a solution to the Xbox Series X crashing upon trying to load into a match (that should also work for the Xbox Series S and possibly the Xbox One). The workaround which has reportedly worked for the user multiple times requires that you have the Xbox Quick Menu (by hitting the Xbox button on the controller) open before entering the game. Then you need to be patient and wait for the map to load as your Quick Menu remains active. Once the map is fully loaded, you can quit out of the menu and start playing as normal.

This is admittedly a strange solution, but two other users have confirmed that this Quick Menu gimmick actually works. So if you’re finding that your console keeps shutting down, like this user who says that the Xbox Series X crashed two out of three times, try this fix to see if this works for you. At the very least, this will be a temporary solution before Blizzard is able to address the problem, hopefully sooner than later so that they can stress-test the Xbox console ecosystem properly.

Sadly, there’s apparently several other reasons why this second Overwatch 2 beta is making the Xbox version not work correctly. Reportedly for the Xbox Series X, this includes (but isn’t limited to) crashes on the splash screen while entering a skirmish, the controller locking up in co-op play, and returning to a game from a previous session causing a black screen. At the time of this writing, it’s unclear if there’s a fix for these major technical issues.
