Apex Legends Mobile Controller Support: Can You Use Gamepads on Android and iPhone?

Respawn Entertainment’s popular battle royale game has finally arrived on Android and iOS. Apex Legends Mobile is out now on the Google Play Store and is available on iPhone and iPad via the App Store. While the game has customizable touch controls, many players will be asking if it is possible to use an external gamepad to play the game. Read on to find out everything you need to know about controller support for Apex Legends Mobile.

Can you play Apex Legends Mobile with a controller?

Yes, you can play Apex Legends Mobile with a controller.

As recently as May 16, the developer had explained that controller support would not be available when Apex Legends Mobile released globally. This was largely down to the fact that the feature had not been fully tested properly. However, the team confirmed it is working on implementing it in the future as they were aware that many users would prefer using a gamepad to touch controls.

Yet, Apex Legends Mobile has launched with controller support on both Android and iPhone. Players can connect an external gamepad to their mobile device and use it to play matches. There’s also the ability to customize the layout of the controller to your liking in the settings, although the option confirms that this is an early iteration of controller support and that it cannot be used to navigate the menus.

What else is different in Apex Legends Mobile?

As well as the ability to use touch controls or an external gamepad, the mobile version of the battle royale game also comes with some other changes. Only one map, World’s Edge, is available at the time of publication and there’s a more limited number of legends to choose from. Apex Legends Mobile does have an exclusive legend, though, in the form of Fade. His abilities include a Slipstream skill that increases movement speed at the end of slides and the Flashback ability that lets him rewind time for a very short period.
