With each new iPhone, the camera glass seems to protrude a little bit more, making it that much more likely to break. Many users have wondered if there’s a way to fix shattered iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro camera glass or if the entire rear of the phone needs to be replaced. We’ll take a look at how feasible this repair is below.
Can you fix broken iPhone 13 camera glass?
Whether or not users can replace the camera glass on an iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 Pro depends on the damage. The outer glass is just a protective cover and isn’t part of the camera lens. So, if it’s just this part that’s damaged, users have a few options. However, if the camera itself is damaged, then users will need Apple to replace it as the camera module has to be paired with the phone to work correctly.
If the outer protective glass is the only thing that needs fixed, there are a few options:
- Have Apple fix it (recommended)
- Have a third-party repair shop replace it
- Repair it yourself
Have Apple fix it
Users that have AppleCare+ or that are still in the window to sign up for AppleCare+ should do so. As long as it’s just the camera glass that’s damaged, it should only be a max of $99. For that price, Apple will either replace the device entirely or fit a new camera glass to the device.
Have a third-party repair shop replace it
There are plenty of great third-party phone repair stores out there, and depending on where a user lives that might be the only option for them. However, not all of them do work of the same quality. If Apple screws up a repair, it’s going to replace your phone, but if someone else does it, you’re still stuck figuring out what to do.
Repair it yourself
The rear of the iPhone 13 is a big sheet of glass, but the camera glass is separate from this. So, users can carefully remove any splintered glass, heat up the lens cover to loosen the glue and remove it. There are kits like these available that purport to match the dimensions and quality of the original glass:
I highly recommend that most people avoid this route. Removing and replacing the camera glass takes finesse, and it would be incredibly easy to mess up by damaging the camera or accidentally leaving dust underneath the glass.
