Fallout 76 managed to somewhat right a horrible launch. However, fans still want the single-player experience for which the series is known. So, they’re left anticipating a Fallout 5 release date. Unfortunately, what platforms the game will come out for and if it’ll even launch in the 2020s is in question.
What’s the release date for Fallout 5?
Fans shouldn’t expect a Fallout 5 release date anytime soon. Bethesda is currently working hard to launch Starfield later this year. After that, it’ll focus its efforts on developing The Elder Scrolls VI. As a result, Fallout 5 hasn’t been announced yet, and we’d be surprised if it releases before the decade is over.
However, one thing might mitigate a long wait. Microsoft owns Bethesda Game Studios and over 20 other studios. That means it also owns the rights to Fallout. It could have another developer (like Obsidian Entertainment) word on Fallout 5. This plan would be ideal for fans as Obsidian’s Fallout: New Vegas is one of the most lauded entries in the series.
Another big question is where Fallout 5 would take us. In our opinion, it’d be great to take the series back west. The situation with the New California Republic was tenuous at the conclusion of Fallout: New Vegas, and there’s plenty of opportunity for commentary with its political crisis. The player could either fight toward keeping the NCR a democracy, throw in to support the brahmin barons who control the vast herds that feed the republic, or support the current president’s expansionist goals and push the nation toward authoritarianism.
What platforms will it lease for?
Fallout 5 will almost certainly be a current-gen exclusive. Depending on when it comes out, we might even see it become a cross-gen game releasing on PS5, PS6, Xbox Series X|S, and whatever the next Xbox will be called. Worst case, we won’t even see it release on the current console generation.
