Final Fantasy XIV players are encountering the FFXIV error code 2002, which informs them that: “The lobby server connection has encountered an error.” This is preventing them from playing the MMO, which is particularly frustrating given that the Endwalker expansion has just launched. So how do you fix the 2002 error? Here’s all you need to know.
How to fix FFXIV error code 2002
The FFXIV 2002 lobby server connection error is the result of many players trying to access the Final Fantasy 14 servers at the same time, due to the popularity of the recently released Endwalker expansion. As such, the issue is server-side, meaning that to “fix” it, players will simply need to keep attempting to log in and wait until they’re finally allowed to play the game.
Square Enix provided the following explanation for the error:
“Error 2002” may be displayed when selecting a character in the Character Selection menu. This error is displayed when the login server is experiencing high amounts of traffic or when the number of characters waiting in a login queue for a logical Data Center exceeds 17,000. This is a measure to prevent the server from crashing due to extreme traffic overloads.
Should you encounter Error 2002 when attempting to log in, we apologise for the inconvenience, but ask that you wait a while before trying again.
Square Enix was upfront about the server issues that FFXIV would face as a result of the new expansion. Character creation has been made unavailable across several servers, meaning that new players won’t be able to create a new character throughout the launch of Endwalker. It’s unclear when character creation will be made available again, but it is currently disabled across worlds in the Aether, Primal, and Crystal regions.
Endwalker is the most highly-anticipated FFXIV expansion yet, bringing the game’s current story to its conclusion. As such, players should expect to wait a short while for its server issues to be resolved, given the huge influx of players currently trying to access the game.
