New World: ‘Crafting attempt failed’ fix

The New World crafting attempt failed bug is a new issue that started with the most recent update. When you try and use a craft box within a station, you’ll receive a “crafting attempt failed” error message. It’s preventing players from building new equipment and upgrading existing items. Fear not, as we break down how to fix the New World crafting attempt failed bug.

How to fix New World “crafting attempt failed” bug

New World crafting attempt failed

To fix the New World crafting attempt failed bug, here’s what to do.

  • Completely log out of New World, and restart the game. You’ll need to make sure the program is completely closed, as just backing out to the menu won’t work.
  • When you log back in, you’ll be able to use crafting mechanics for one session. However, subsequent attempts to craft following this will bring up the error message.
  • If this still doesn’t work, clear your cache and reopen the game once more.
  • For a more permanent fix, try deleting and reinstalling New World onto your PC.

As you can tell, there isn’t yet a permanent fix for the New World crafting bug. It’s an issue that only appeared in the 1.04 update from late October 2021. Equally, it appears to randomly affect the various types of crafting, and there’s no way of pinpointing which one it’ll impact in your save. Some users on the New World forums have reported their Outfitting Station not working, whereas others mention Smelters.

It appears to be a small bug within the game files, as users have reported that deleting and reinstalling the game does permanently fix the problem. However, that’s a major inconvenience for New World players. The good news is that the developers are aware of the bug, so there should be a permanent fix soon. Sadly, that won’t be coming in the 1.05 software update.

For more on New World, we’ve got details on how to fix the ‘No login ticket received’ error, and the ‘Failed to join login queue’ error.
