Mario Party Superstars multiplayer: How many players are supported?

The party begins when you invite your friends to a rousing round of Mario Party Superstars. But just how many of your friends can jump in on the action? Party games are all about bringing people together, after all. However, this series has always focused on a specific number of players. Has that changed with the advent of online multiplayer, or is the max player count the same as ever?

How many players does Mario Party Superstars support?

Mario Party Superstars multiplayer offers support for up to four players total. Players can join matches either online or locally through co-op, with any sort of split in between. Otherwise, there’s still a four-player maximum limit, same as with most other games in the Mario Party series.

Basically, if you’re hoping that multiplayer support has been expanded, you’re out of luck. Mario Party Superstars doesn’t allow for eight players, or for six players. That’s probably not too big a surprise if you’ve been playing the series for while. You just can’t have more than four players in a Mario Party game.

Well, perhaps you could, but it’s not possible just yet. That said, the series is certainly growing to an apex point. Superstars represents the highest number of minigames for any release in the series, so for the franchise to evolve, it must naturally grow.

Besides, we already know that the Switch can handle games for more than four players. Tetris 99 appeared practically out of the blue with support for nearly 100. It’s just that Mario Party, for the longest time, was limited to the console’s number of controller inputs. With online multiplayer in the mix, that’s no longer an issue.

Multiplayer is the bread and butter of the Mario Party series, and Superstars is maintaining the status quo. Even though multiplayer can be split between local and online play, there’s still a maximum limit of four players.
