Is the Google Pixel Pass worth it?

The Google Pixel Pass is a way for customers to purchase a new Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro in installments. In addition to allowing buyers to pay a little for the phone each month instead of buying it outright, the Pixel Pass offers some great benefits that make using Android even better. However, despite Google’s claim that customers will save money using the plan, subscriptions like these usually have a catch. So, we’ll examine below whether the Google Pixel Pass is worth it or not.

Is the Google Pixel Pass worth it, or should I buy a Pixel 6 outright?

Google Pixel Pass Worth It

The Google Pixel Pass offers four options:

  • Google Pixel 6:
    • 128 GB: $45
    • 256 GB: $48.75
  • Google Pixel 6 Pro:
    • 128 GB: $55
    • 256 GB: $58.75

Along with the phone, Pixel Pass subscribers get:

  • YouTube Premium
  • YouTube Music Premium
  • Device Protection
  • 200 GB Google One Storage
  • Google Play Pass
  • $5/month off Google Fi bill

The devices financed without Google Pixel Pass are:

  • Pixel 6: $24.96/month
  • Pixel 6 Pro: $37.46/month

So, the Google Pixel Pass adds roughly $20/month to a Google Store financed phone. It’s worth noting that this subscription is only available to Google Fi users, so it’s already off the table for those using another service.

Whether or not the Google Pixel Pass is worth it depends on how much someone uses the services offered. Those that use YouTube and YouTube music often will likely appreciate the ad-free experience, and there’s a good selection of games and apps on Google Play Pass. Subscribers can also look at the $5 off Google Fi service per month as a deduction from the overall cost of the Pixel Pass.

However, the Pixel Pass shouldn’t be treated as if customers aren’t paying for the perks at all. It is an extra $20ish a month, and many won’t find almost doubling their monthly payment very appetizing. All in all, the Pixel Pass seems like a better value at first glance than it actually is, and not everyone will get their money’s worth out of it.
