Where was Timesplitters 4 at the THQ Nordic showcase?

Some of the most beloved series in gaming belong to THQ Nordic, and we’re naturally including classic FPS Timesplitters. The problem is, the development and publishing studio seems to keeping details on the new game close to its vest. What’s with the omission? How come THQ isn’t talking about Timesplitters 4? And what’s the latest word on the series’ long-awaited sequel?

Where was Timesplitters 4 at the THQ Nordic showcase?

We probably shouldn’t be surprised that Timesplitters 4 was absent from the THQ Nordic showcase. There’s been very little information about the series’ next game despite continued interest in THQ reviving the Timesplitters franchise. The simple fact is that the game wasn’t on display during the showcase because there’s nothing to show off.

Thankfully, we do at least know that the project is planned. Timesplitters 4, or whatever the game winds up being titled, is to be one of the first projects for the newly revised Free Radical Design, a new studio from Deep Silver. However, the studio itself isn’t ready just yet. As such, the latest news hasn’t changed for months.

Basically, Free Radical Design is still being established. The plan is to hire a few industry veterans including folks who have worked on Timesplitters in the past. Once that’s out of the way — and once the studio itself is up and running — then the new Free Radical Design will be able to begin work on the sequel.

This is great news considering that prior to last May, the entire series was in limbo. Timesplitters 4 was technically announced back in 2007, but the game just sort of faded away in a haze of buyouts and corporate restructuring. Rights jumped between the original Free Radical Design, to the revised Crytek UK, and on to Deep Silver before being purchased by Koch Media, a subsidiary of THQ Nordic.

Still, rest assured that this fan-favorite franchise is not forgotten. THQ Nordic may have not had any TimeSplitters 4 content on display during its showcase, but Free Radical Design still intends to make the sequel a reality. Plus, we didn’t see any Red Faction, either. For now, we’ll just have to sit and wait patiently.
