Insomniac Games seems to have a very fruitful relationship with Marvel Studios. That’s great news for game fans, as the developer just recently announced Marvel’s Wolverine, the latest in the team’s super-powered action-adventure lineup. Though it’s still years away from release, it’s following in the heritage of Marvel’s Spider-Man, which was released as a PlayStation exclusive. Is the same going to be true for Wolverine? Are there any plans for a PlayStation 4 version?
Is Marvel’s Wolverine a PS5 exclusive?
Yes, Marvel’s Wolverine is a PS5 exclusive. This detail was mentioned shortly after the game’s reveal during the latest PlayStation Showcase event. Sadly, this also means that Insomniac’s Wolverine game will not be coming to the PlayStation 4.
Granted, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Since it’s being developed by Insomniac, the game was always going to be a PlayStation 4 exclusive. And since Sony is certainly eager to use the studio’s prowess to move more consoles, it just makes sense to make Wolverine a PS5 exclusive.
Naturally, this also spells bad news for players without a PlayStation. You won’t be able to buy it for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, the Nintendo Switch, or even the PC. Much like with Rift Apart, Wolverine will only be available for the PlayStation 5.
Thankfully, the news seems very good otherwise. Marvel’s Spider-Man clearly set a precedent for Insomniac, and Miles Morales is still one of the biggest games on the PS5 today. Even better, Marvel’s Wolverine is being helmed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, the creative and game directors for Miles Morales. If nothing else, those creative minds should ensure that the game sticks to Insomniac’s winning recipe.
Marvel’s Wolverine is a PlayStation 5 exclusive. You won’t be able to play it on Xbox or on PC. Insomniac develops games exclusively for PlayStation, and Insomniac’s Wolverine is no exception. In fact, it’s almost certainly just the latest in a long line of PlayStation-exclusive Marvel games to come. It may still be years from release, but it’s safe to say we’re all eager to see Logan’s latest outing.
