Psychonauts 2: How to improve performance, frame rate, FPS drops, and lag

Psychonauts 2 performance problems can hinder your experience with the platformer, with FPS drops, frame rate problems, lag, and stuttering being issues that you may suffer while trying to play it. Fortunately, there are ways to get around it and attain a smooth gameplay experience. Here’s how to improve performance in Psychonauts 2.

How to improve performance in Psychonauts 2

Psychonauts 2’s performance can be improved using a number of methods. This can help fix FPS drops in the game, along with increasing frame rate, reducing lag, and stopping visual stuttering.

Here are the steps you can take to improve performance in Psychonauts 2:

  • Download the latest Nvidia or AMD GPU drivers
  • Run the game in fullscreen mode rather than windowed or borderless
  • Don’t run in ultra-widescreen resolutions such as 3440×1440, as the game does not natively support them
  • Reduce resolution scaling to 85/90
  • Enable VSync

Carrying out the above should improve performance in Psychonauts 2, increasing its frame rate while also ensuring the consistency that will prevent frame drops. Enabling VSync will cut out the screen tear that can be visible while traversing the platformer’s environment, while resolution scaling can also affect your FPS. Downloading the latest graphic drivers ensures that your PC is up-to-date when supporting the latest games, and it’s important to note that ultra-widescreen is unfortunately not natively supported by Psychonauts 2. While you can select ultrawide resolutions, it merely stretches the screen rather than altering it for ultrawide monitors. We found during our playthrough that this had a negative impact on performance, too.

Psychonauts 2 is the sequel to the long-awaited Double Fine platformer, with GameRevolution praising it in our review, calling it in “expert” and “empathetic” exploration of mental health.

In other news, the Splitgate beta has also been making waves, and you can read our impressions of the arena shooter here. You can also check out our review of the XGIMI Elfin projector, which allows for next-gen gaming on a 200-inch screen.
