Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was one of the highlights of Ubisoft Forward at E3 2021, and fans are wondering when they’ll get their hands on the game. This first-person action-adventure game has gotten a release date already – well, sorta. We’ll go into when Frontiers of Pandora will release, what platforms it’s being developed for, and story details below.
What is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s release date?
As with many games these days, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora got a release window. We can expect the game to release sometime in 2022. The title was originally announced way back in 2017, but its status has been a mystery until today’s conference. It’s one of two open-world games we know is being developed by Ubisoft Massive, the other being a Star Wars title.
Frontiers of Pandora will put players in a first-person perspective in a new part of Pandora, the Western Frontier. It’s a standalone story, so we shouldn’t expect to see Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, or Sigourney Weaver. However, the Na’vi are still fighting against the RDA, so the conflict might be tied in more closely to the original movie than it seems at first glance.
Surprisingly, the game is being built with the Snowdrop Engine, the same one that powers The Division and its sequel. While it’s evident that it can handle open-worlds with ease, Frontiers of Pandora looks like it’ll have verticality not seen in those games. It’ll be interesting to see Ubisoft Massive put its engine to the test with a massively different setting and playstyle.
Unlike many of Ubisoft’s upcoming titles, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a next-gen only game. Perhaps the studio will be leveraging the faster loading to help create an expansive landscape with fewer loading points. As such, it’s set to release on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Stadia, and Luna sometime next year.
