Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to get Shell Arch

Animal Crossing: New Horizons players always want to have the best island possible. Fortunately, the game offers plenty of different craftable items, furniture, and housewares to make your home beautiful. Among the most sought-after house pieces this season is the Shell Arch, a perfect piece for that beach-bum aesthetic. Here’s how to get the Shell Arch in New Horizons, including where to get the Shell Arch recipe.

How to get the Shell Arch in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

To get the Shell Arch in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you first need to find its recipe. Luckily, you can receive it as a gift from Lazy villagers, including Beau, Claude, Stu, Erik, and Dizzy. Once you’ve got the recipe, you can then build a Shell Arch from beach-themed crafting materials.

For most players, the hardest part about getting the Shell Arch will be finding the recipe. The DIY Recipe can be gifted by villagers, but only from the ones deemed Lazy:

  • Beau
  • Bob
  • Claude
  • Cranston
  • Dizzy
  • Erik
  • Filbert
  • Jacob
  • Joey
  • Lucky
  • Nate
  • Ozzie
  • Punchy
  • Sherb
  • Stitches
  • Stu
  • Walker
  • Zucker

Alternatively, the Shell Arch recipe can be found within a Message in a Bottle. The chance of it appearing is totally random, of course, so there’s no guarantee the bottle will contain the recipe you want. Thankfully, these bottles appear on your island every day, so you have a small chance to find the recipe each time you play.

Shell Arch Recipe: Crafting materials and requirements

Once you have the Shell Arch DIY recipe, you can build the arch with the following materials:

  • Coral x 3
  • Cowrie x 3
  • Giant Clam x 3
  • Sand Dollar x 3
  • Sea Snail x 3
  • Venus Comb x 3

To make matters even better, Shell Arches can be tailored to suit your island. By using a Customization Kit, you’ll be able to select from six different Shell Arch variations:

  • Brown
  • Pearl
  • Pink
  • Purple
  • White
  • Yellow

They’re basically just palette swaps, but which color you choose is ultimately up to you. Regardless of which color theme you go with, the Shell Arch will provide an additional 0.5 points toward your island rating.

There is one more detail worth mentioning: The Shell Arch is one of the more valuable items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It’s possible to sell them for upward of 12,360 Bells, and that number can reach even higher if it’s a Hot Item. Considering that most of the crafting components can be foraged from your beach, this makes it one of the best ways to earn Bells quickly.
