The Sims franchise has a huge fanbase, and EA continues to drop new content for the latest entry in the series, The Sims 4. However, that title is starting to show its age, and fans are ready to find out when The Sims 5 is coming out.
When will The Sims 5 get a release date?
Since the game’s release on September 2, 2014, The Sims 4 has gotten eighteen stuff packs, nine game packs, and ten expansion packs. However, the game engine itself hasn’t fundamentally changed, and many fans feel like it’s time for the series to move on. However, it’s improbable The Sims 5 will get a release date anytime soon.
The tenth expansion pack for The Sims 4, Snowy Escape just released in November 2020. This DLC focused on winter living and features snowboarding, skiing, sledding, hot springs, and a new world centered around Mt. Komorebi.
Unfortunately, if a The Sims 5 comes out, it will mean fans will lose a ton of content. The Sims 4 still doesn’t have some of the features that The Sims 3 did, and the game’s release was very controversial in the community due to how much was left behind in development.
Given the continued outcry from the fanbase, EA will likely continue to update The Sims 4 instead of committing resources to develop The Sims 5. The Sims 4 may come to new platforms, but there’s no indicator that it’s be discontinued anytime soon.
It’s possible that The Sims 5 could come out at some time in the next decade or so. However, fans of The Sims are more worried about interactivity and variety in content rather than graphics or effects. So, though The Sims 4 is starting to look its age, the actual gameplay is still satisfactory. Hopefully, EA will continue to evolve the game and add new features to bring it up to the level of The Sims 3.
