can you turn off skill-based matchmaking in Fortnite?

Fortnite | Can you turn off skill-based matchmaking? (2021)

Fortnite can be an ultra-competitive game, but some users just want to relax and play casually. Skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) in Epic Games’ popular battle royale title can make it hard to do so, however. But, can you turn off skill-based matchmaking in Fortnite? Here’s the need-to-know for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android versions.

Can you disable SBMM in Fortnite?

In an ideal world, Fortnite‘s SBMM would make it a more balanced game. In reality, however, it often lumps players across all platforms together in mismatched and unfair scenarios. As a result, many users become frustrated. Longtime fans might even wish for a return to the days before skill-based matchmaking in Fortnite was a thing. Is it possible to do so, though?

Players can disable cross-play in Fortnite to help improve skill-based matchmaking; while in-game, simply head to the settings menu and turn the “Allow Cross Platform Parties” option off. Unfortunately, users are not able to get rid of Fortnite SBMM completely, on any platform.

How to improve Fortnite skill-based matchmaking

  1. Boot up Fortnite.
  2. From the lobby, head to the options menu.
  3. Locate the “Allow Cross Platform Parties” setting.
  4. Toggle it from “On” to the “Off” setting.

Don’t worry about the limited player pool warning, as this is the desired effect. Now, users will only matchmake with other players on the same platform. That means no more PC players wielding a mouse and keyboard to wreck those using controllers on consoles!

Anybody that still has issues with Fortnite SBMM should stick with the game. It might be frustrating for a while, but skill-based matchmaking is a fluid system, which means after enduring several losses the game should eventually become easier.

One person that nobody in their right mind would want to match with is the player with the most Arena points in Fortnite.
