Black Ops Cold War Stutter and Lag Fix | How to improve frame-rate

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War stutter and lag can make it so players might miss otherwise easy shots online and in single-player modes. Frame-rate drops in the game can affect all players, no matter whether they’re playing on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X. Here’s how to fix Black Ops Cold War stutter and lag and improve its frame-rate.

How to fix stutter and fix lag in Black Ops Cold War

Black Ops Cold War stutter

While everyone wants every game to be as smooth as they can be, frame-rate stutter and lag can affect any release on any platform, especially at launch before any patches are released, and CoD: Black Ops Cold War is no different. Fortunately, there are some general fixes that should help the game run more smoothly and remove some of the stutter and lag.

Black Ops Cold War PC stutter and lag fix

  • Lower graphical settings.
  • Turn off any background applications that might throttle the CPU or RAM.
  • Wait for an update from Treyarch.
  • Install the game on an SSD.
  • Exit the game and try again.
    • A restart of the PC could help, too.
  • Download and install new graphics driver updates.
  • Verify the game files.
  • Ensure the internet connection is stable.

Black Ops Cold War stutter and lag fix on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X

Make sure the correct version of the game is installed. On Xbox Series X|S and PS5, it is possible that the last-gen (Xbox One and PS4) version of the game is installed, not the next-gen version. Check the install file size, it should be bigger on the next-gen version of the game. On PS5, too, at least, hover over the Black Ops Cold War icon. If the white text underneath the icon says PS4, click on the three dots symbol to download the PS5 version instead.

On top of that, general fixes exist:

  • Make sure your internet connection is stable
  • Restart the game/console
  • Wait for a fix via an update

Hopefully, one of the suggested fixes above solves some of the Black Ops Cold War stutter and lag issues players are facing. If not, Treyarch should update the game and fix the problem to some extent, at least.
