Black Ops Cold War Operation Chaos | Decrypt Floppy Disk Code and Passphrase

While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is mostly about shooting down enemies with cool weapons, the single-player campaign has a couple of puzzles that players will need to solve. The Operation Chaos mission tasks players with decrypting a floppy disk. To solve this, players will need to work out a secret code and passphrase. Complete the mission with the guide below.

How to decrypt the floppy disk in Black Ops Cold War Operation Chaos

Black Ops Cold War Operation Chaos Decrypt Floppy Disk

There are three steps to decrypting the floppy disk in Black Ops Cold War. Players will first need to get all three pieces of evidence from certain missions. They will then need to use that evidence to solve the floppy disk code and work out the floppy disk passphrase. Read on for the full how-to guide and instructions.

Get all three pieces of evidence

  • Front Page of the Observer newspaper
    • Location: Redlight, Greenlight mission
    • The newspaper is found in the retro bar.
  • A Coded Message
    • Location: Nowhere Left to Run mission
    • The coded message is automatically given to the player after interacting with Qasim.
  • Numbers Station Broadcast
    • Location: Brick in the Wall mission
    • Players will want to look out for an audio reel. Search the area before releasing the prisoner.

Decrypt the floppy disk code

  1. Select the Front Page of the Observer newspaper.
  2. Note the red letters that form an anagram.
  3. Use the red letters to form a location.
  4. Select the Numbers Station Broadcast.
  5. Find the newspaper’s location and note the matching code.
  6. This is the floppy disk code.

Decrypt the floppy disk passphrase

  1. Select A Coded Message.
  2. Work out the question marks by filling in the gaps.
  3. Red numbers use one pattern and blue letters use another.
  4. Combine the numbers to get a four-digit code.
  5. Select the Numbers Station Broadcast.
  6. Use the four-digit code to get the matching location.
  7. This is the floppy disk passphrase.

Combine the code and the passphrase to successfully decrypt the floppy disk and complete Operation Chaos.

It’s worth noting that there are different solutions to this puzzle. One player’s solution may be different from another. Players will need to work out the city locations and codes on their own, including the math sequence solutions.

It’s not possible to decrypt the floppy disk without first getting all three pieces of evidence, due to the variation in possible codes and passphrases.
