Announced during the PlayStation 5 Showcase on September 16, 2020, the seemingly darker, Game of Thrones-esque new entry into the long-running franchise was confirmed for PS5, but what about other consoles like the Nintendo Switch? Will it release on Nintendo’s hybrid console?

Is there a Final Fantasy 16 Nintendo Switch release date?
No, Final Fantasy 16 will not release on the Nintendo Switch. As stated above, the game was revealed during the PS5 Showcase on September 16, 2020. It was confirmed at the time that Final Fantasy 16 is a PS5 console exclusive, at least. As of writing, it’s unclear whether the game will release on PC as well as PS5, let alone the vastly underpowered Switch. Again, we will more-than-likely never see a Switch version of Final Fantasy 16 released.
While Final Fantasy 16 looks set to remain a PS5 console exclusive, there might be a chance of a Pocket Edition released a la Final Fantasy 15. The Pocket Edition could chibi the game down to better suiting the Switch’s hardware limitations, which are only more pronounced alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series family of consoles. We’ll have to wait and see, of course, if an FF16 Pocket Edition is ever released.
For now, you’ll have to purchase a PS5 to play Final Fantasy 16. There almost certainly won’t ever be a Final Fantasy 16 Switch version. Time will tell if a Pocket Edition of the game is developed, however. That would appear to be the only chance the game has to release on the Switch. Even the rumored more powerful Switch revision probably wouldn’t be strong enough to run the game. Not without a number of visual downgrades, anyway.
