Is Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning a free upgrade?
As of writing, we don’t know for certain if there is a Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning free upgrade. Right now, it seems as though everyone will need to buy the remaster of the game, whether you’re playing on PC, PS4, or Xbox One. The pre-orders are now live for the game, without any word of a free upgrade or money off the remake on PC. Given how the original game is not available on PS4 and Xbox One (you can play the 360 game through backward compatibility on Xbox One), it should come as no surprise that you cannot upgrade for free. On PC, however, is a different story. While it’s currently unknown if it will be a free upgrade on PC or not, it seems unlikely. We will, of course, update this guide if new information comes to light.

To clarify the situation, we asked the Global Community Manager for THQ Nordic whether PC players will be able to upgrade to Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning for free, or will everyone need to buy the remaster? The response we received is that (as of writing) it’s “too early to tell.” The THQ Nordic global community manager added that the company is “working on a FAQ that should hopefully be up next week where such questions will be answered.”
Based on what we’ve been told, we’ll have to wait and see if there is a Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning free upgrade for those playing on PC. It does seem unlikely, however. We’ll update this guide as soon as we can if there is a free upgrade available on any platform.
