Owners of The Last of Us Remastered on PS4 are wondering if they’ll get a next-gen upgrade to The Last of Us Part 1 for PS5. Now that we know how similar the PS5 remake will be to the original and the remaster, it would make sense that those who purchased them would get a chance at a free or reduced upgrade to the new version. Here’s what we know so far.
Can you get a next-gen upgrade to The Last of Us Part 1 if you own TLoU Remastered?
Those who own The Last of Us, whether it be the original or the remastered version, won’t get a next-gen upgrade to The Last of Us Part 1. In fact, Sony is charging full price for the PS5 remake, and it’ll retail for $69.99 for the standard edition.
Some fans are questioning Sony’s decision to charge full price for The Last of Us remake, given that it looks like a pretty faithful 1:1 translation. A few are even questioning why a remake was needed at all since the original isn’t even a decade old. Comparisons have been drawn to Bethesda’s seemingly endless re-releases of Skyrim.
The PlayStation Blog that accompanied the announcement had this to say about the new features the remake would be bringing:
“We’ve implemented modernized gameplay, improved controls, and expanded accessibility options in this single-player experience to allow even more individuals to enjoy the game. Effects, exploration, and combat have all been enhanced. Leveraging the PS5’s powerful hardware, we also implemented 3D Audio*, haptics, and adaptive triggers. Both returning fans and new players alike will have the opportunity to experience both The Last of Us Part I and its prequel story Left Behind in a whole new way.”
We’ll see if the price of admission is worth it when The Last of Us Part 1 releases on PS5 on September 2, 2022.
