Overwatch Anniversary event 2020 release date, skins, and more

The Overwatch Anniversary event 2020 is nearly upon us as the hero shooter approaches its fourth birthday. And with every birthday, comes an event. But when is the Overwatch Anniversary event? And what skins or cosmetics will it have?

When is the Overwatch Anniversary event 2020?

Overwatch Anniversary event 2020 release date, skins, and more

Blizzard has not officially announced when the Overwatch Anniversary event will start. However, the start date seems to have leaked. According to a post on Blizzard’s forums that was rapidly taken down, the Overwatch Anniversary event will begin on May 19, like we initially guessed. It ends June 9.

The Overwatch Anniversary event last year started on May 21 and ended on June 11. This is near its actual anniversary for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions: May 24. If that is accurate, it’s almost ensured that the Overwatch Anniversary Event will start on May 19, 2020 and end on June 16, 2020 (or at least those same weeks). It’s unlikely to start later than May 19 because it would likely miss its actual birthday.

The 2020 Archives event did start one month earlier than it did in 2019, but that is probably not going to happen for the Anniversary, given how it is based around just that: the anniversary of the game. However, it is possible that Blizzard could be moving the date up or around.

Overwatch Anniversary event 2020 skins and cosmetics

We don’t know for sure what skins or cosmetics will be in the event, but, again, we can look at patterns. Sigma and Echo will likely get dance emotes. Wrecking Ball got one last year and the downloadable characters all get one eventually. There’s speculation that Echo might get this as a Play of the Game animation, but that might not happen since the Anniversary events have never had those before. Also she just came out, which makes that a little less likely.

The Overwatch Anniversary event skins are a little harder to pin down since they don’t usually have a common theme or aesthetic, as you can see in the above picture. Regardless, we will have a gallery of the new skins here when the event goes live.

However, even some (but probably not all) of the skins have leaked and some have been tweeted out. We don’t have the images of these skins yet, but we do have their names. The Overwatch Anniversary event 2020 skins are:

  • Masquerade Reaper (Legendary)
  • Dragoon Mercy (Legendary)
  • Little Red Ashe (Legendary)
  • Carbon Fiber Sigma (Epic)
  • Fleur de Lis Widowmaker (Epic)
  • Masked Man McCree (Epic)
  • Submarine Captain Wrecking Ball
  • Huitzilopochtli Zenyatta
