Pokemon Sword and Shield Heavy Ball

Pokemon Sword and Shield Heavy Ball | How to get more

Pokemon Sword and Shield feature a wide range of Pokeballs, a selection of which fall under the particularly rare Apricorn jurisdiction. These balls offer Pokemon Trainers a greater chance of success when attempting to capture certain types of creatures; in the case of the Heavy Ball, predictably, it works best when thrown at weighty Pokemon. If you’re wondering how to get your first Pokemon Sword and Shield Heavy Ball, or perhaps have one and want to know where to find more, then you’re in the right place.

How to get a Heavy Ball in Pokemon Sword and Shield

Pokemon Sword and Shield Heavy Ball

In order to get your first Heavy Ball, you’ll need to progress through the story in either Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield until you reach Stow-on-Side. Inside the Stow-on-Side Gym, you should see the familiar grinning face of Ball Guy (pictured at the top of this guide). Speak to him and he’ll gift you a Heavy Ball free of charge, though only this one time.

Can you get more Heavy Balls in Pokemon Sword and Shield?

Pokemon Sword and Shield Heavy Ball

With Ball Guy ceasing to payout after your first conversation, where should you look to find another Heavy Ball and catch more girthy Pokemon? Unfortunately, there’s no known seller in any of the main cities or even in the Wild Area. None have currently been found as random item pickups in Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield, either.

All hope is not lost, however, as once you’ve completed the game it’s possible to replay the Champion Cup. This Cup stands in for the conventional Pokemon League or Elite Four Pokemon game climax, only this time around it’s repeatable on a daily basis. Doing so successfully will grant you a randomized reward, with a Heavy Ball being one of the potential items.

Just keep in mind that you aren’t guaranteed a Heavy Ball, so you could be in for a bit of a grind.
