While most Pokemon evolve simply by boosting their level in battle, that isn’t a universal rule. Some creatures have weird and wonderful evolution methods to discover, with one such Pokemon being Feebas. If you’re looking to evolve Feebas into Milotic, then the first thing you’ll want to do is locate a Pokemon Sword and Shield Prism Scale. This guide will tell you everything you need to know in order to get your hands on one in-game, along with what to do after that to claim your Milotic.
How to get a Prism Scale in Pokemon Sword and Shield
Before you can grab a Prism Scale, you’ll first need to acquire the ability to cross water using the Rotom Bicycle. You’ll need to progress through the story until you’ve earned six badges by defeating Gym Leaders to do so; there’s more information on acquiring the Pokemon Sword and Shield Surf ability equivalent here.

Once you’ve done that, for a guaranteed Prism Scale travel to Route 2 and navigate to Professor Magnolia’s waterfront home. Head west (left) of the house into the water until you reach an island; to the northwest (upper left) of this island you should see a sparkle in the water near another piece of land. This indicates that there’s an item to pick up, which just so happens to be a Prism Scale.
Prism Scales can also appear as random spawns in the South Lake Miloch region of the Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield Wild Area. You’ll need to patrol the waters looking for glittery item spawns, though do keep in mind that these aren’t guaranteed.
How to evolve Feebas into Milotic with a Prism Scale in Sword and Shield
Once you’ve got a Prism Stone (and a Feebas, of course), you’ll need to have Feebas hold the Prism Stone and then trade it to a friend. This will prompt the evolution into Milotic, which can then be traded back into your Pokemon collection. Ensure to do this with somebody that you trust to return Milotic to you.
