The long-awaited Solid Snake Amiibo figurine from Nintendo, produced in collaboration with Metal Gear Solid franchise owner Konami, is finally out now! No. 75 in the Super Smash Bros. Collection, this Amiibo celebrates the iconic character who’s actually perhaps most synonymous with Sony’s PlayStation brand. While Nintendo hasn’t yet shared the exact functionality that users can expect to see when scanning the Snake Amiibo NFC chip in compatible games, they have shared a full list of the 13 titles that he’ll work with straight out of the box.

Generally, games will have a dedicated Amiibo screen, either accessed from the in-game pause menu or from the main menu. After selecting this option the base of an Amiibo can be tapped and held against the right stick of a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con or the same action can be performed on the bottom screen of a New Nintendo 3Ds model.

Being from the Super Smash Bros. Collection Amiibo line — and Smash Bros. Ultimate being the game that Solid Snake specifically features in — that’s likely where most players will want to put their new Snake Amiibo to use. It’s reasonable to assume that the functionality will be the same as with other figures in the collection, likely meaning that you’ll be able to train Snake as an Amiibo fighter to mimic your play style and serve as a well-matched sparring partner.

How Snake will be put to use in the 12 other compatible games is altogether more of a mystery. A few notable inclusions are the fan-favorite likes of Dark Souls: Remastered, Bayonetta 2, Super Mario Odyssey, and Skyrim, all of which have the potential to please Nintendo Switch players by giving new life to some of the platform’s greatest games.

  • Dark Souls: Remastered
  • Little Nightmares: Complete Edition
